SUSAN LABUDDE
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Susan LaBudde is a retired lawyer who started exploring painting and pastels during Covid lockdown, as part of an informal family Art Challenge. From there she shifted to pet commissions and pet coats-of-arms. Early in her art career she was featured in Plein Air Magazine under the Best Beginner category for a pastel portrait of her black lab mix, and has had other small works published. She currently focuses on oil painting with forays into mixed media pencil/ pastels of birds and other wildlife.
As a newer, self-taught artist, Susan strives to push color in a style of impressionistic realism. She loves painting animals, interiors, landscapes and “pet heraldry”—complete with latin motto tailored to the pet’s personality. Susan incorporates humor and whimsy, through subject matter and composition.
Susan is a member of the Fox Point Artists, Cedarburg Artists Guild and Wisconsin Craft.
