Sam Frey is a potter who loves both raku and functional pottery techniques. She designed a traveling raku setup, which allows her to create and fire ceramic work wherever inspiration takes her. Her vibrant pieces are inspired by a deep love of hiking, camping, fishing, and geology, blending natural textures, movement, and expressive design into each work.
She studied Paleontology at The University of Texas Permian Basin, where her fascination with earth sciences began to influence her artistic perspective. The concept for her mobile raku practice developed while working with an organization through UTPB called Pots and Prints. She traveled all over West Texas teaching kids of all ages how to throw pottery.
Sam currently teaches pottery at The Potter’s Shop, where she encourages creativity, curiosity, and strong technical foundations in students of all ages. Teaching is her passion.
