Randy & Lisa live among the cornfields and hayfields of northwest Wisconsin, sharing their days with a small “herd” of domestic animals. They can often be found working and creating in their home studio. When the moment allows, they wander gravel roads in search of their next image, drawn to the quiet poetry of rural life—weathered landscapes, shifting light, and the simple beauty of birds flitting through the weeds and wildflowers along the field edges.
Their work is rooted in impressionistic photography. Every piece begins with a photograph, then evolves through a range of post editing techniques that shape mood, atmosphere, and visual impact. Those images become encaustic pieces, layered with a blend of beeswax and resin that adds texture, depth, and a luminous, tactile quality while also providing a natural protective finish. Each artwork is framed by hand. Reclaimed barn wood, metal, and found objects are transformed into one of a kind frames that echo the landscapes that inspire them. Imperfections in the materials are embraced rather than hidden, allowing every frame—and every finished piece—to carry its own history, character, and individuality.
Randy & Lisa began combining encaustic photography with custom, hand built frames in 2016. Their complementary skills and shared vision allow them to run a successful art business, with work represented through both fine art fairs and gallery sales. Randy is a self taught portrait and art photographer who designs and builds each frame by hand. Lisa brings a background in art and management, overseeing the day to day business operations and creating the encaustic elements of their work. Both are photographers, and while they edit their own images individually, every finished piece is shaped through a collaborative process and shared artistic consensus.
