ARTIST, WRITER & COMMUNITY ARTS ACTIVIST Melissa Muller is a Milwaukee-based artist, grant writer, curator, and community organizer.
Holding a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, her career began with owning and curating Bliss Studio & Gallery, showcasing diverse installations. She’s extended her curation to exhibitions in Milwaukee and Chicago. Currently, she serves as the Managing Director of Washington Park Neighbors and Development Director for Art Intersections Milwaukee. These roles foster collaborative community exhibits and public art initiatives. As an Artist and Community Arts Project Manager, her focus is on connectivity, leveraging her skills for community, non-profit, and neighborhood projects. During summers, as the leader of Washington Park Neighbors (WPN), she orchestrates Washington Park Wednesdays at the historic Bandshell. By combining design, marketing, and partnerships, she drives an 8-week concert series enriching the Washington Park neighborhood.
Beyond collaborating with artists and grant writing, she creates functional and artistic ceramics in stoneware. Traditional utilitarian forms metamorphose into unique art objects in her hands. Melissa's stoneware creations embody a fusion of traditional forms and contemporary artistry. Originally utilitarian, her designs transcend function to become objects of art. The essence of her pieces lies in their clean, simple aesthetics, crafted to endure rigorous daily use and become integral to users' routines. Grounded in utility, her stoneware pieces stand as modern classics, meant to be cherished through everyday rituals.
