Using heat, gravity, and a little luck, Ben uses flowing glass to create unique patterns and designs. Sometimes metal and plaster casting molds are used to create more complex and sculptural forms. Ben’s journey to glass actually started with pottery, under the tutelage of Mel Sundby. He thoroughly enjoyed every chance to sit around a warm raku kiln on a cool fall day. In 2019 it was time for a change, and the Wisconsin boy moved to Hawai‘i.
Unfortunately, he couldn't take the wheel and kiln, so was in limbo creatively. In 2020 when everyone had a little more time on our hands, glass piqued his interest. He found Rachel Baker, who was kind enough to take him on as an apprentice, and was hooked. A few years later, Wisconsin called Ben back home. He continues to be excited, challenged, mesmerized and occasionally physically harmed by this amazing material.
