Ann Mory Wydeven Sculpture Studio

Host artist at her home

Ann Wydeven is a ceramic sculptor and educator. She apprenticed at the Moravian Pottery and Tileworks influencing her passion for clay and tile. Travelling to Italy, the Netherlands and France cemented her focus on using commercial and handmade tile, glass and found objects in her ceramics and sculpture.

She is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design with an MFA in sculpture. She has been the sole proprietor of AMW Sculpture Studio since 1989. As a mentor at RedLine Milwaukee, she mentored emerging artists in pursuit of their professional careers. She is an adjunct faculty member of Alverno College and now retired. Her workshops and residencies have placed her in many public, private, and charter schools in Milwaukee and surrounding areas. Her sculptural work has been placed in collections both regionally and nationally. Her architectural mosaic murals can be found in commercial and residential homes throughout WI.

The works are simple terracotta constructions with tactile surfaces of mosaic that allow a place for pattern and drawing. The sculptural works have surface narratives that reflect our collective histories. In learning to trust the process, I accept flaws and even call attention to them in order to tell stories that bind us with shared experiences. I embrace the philosophy of Wabi Sabi with an awareness of the transient nature of earthly things and pull from nature, historical works and mythology
