Guest artist at 3) C3 Design
Sarah Hunt-Frank has created a distinctive style of slab-rolled, two-seamed ceramic vases in tall elegant forms, with delicately implied images, inspired by the simplicity of Japanese art. She admires Japanese art and design: the subtle suggestion of an image with a few simple strokes, the delicate balance of a vessel and the elegant sweep of a design. Every time she makes a vase, she is excited to have another “canvass” to paint on.
In high school, she attended art classes at Herron School of Art in Indianapolis, and Saturday classes at Purdue University. She earned degrees in Art and Theater at Ball State University, and has been a professional Theatrical Scenic Designer and Scenic Artist for 30 years. She began making pottery in 2015 as a hobby.
Her vases have aesthetically-pleasing almond-shaped silhouettes: the smooth surface contrasting with the rough opening at the top of the vase; and they are painted with simple images of nature. Her vases are fully glazed inside and can hold a bouquet and water. In all things, Sarah strives for sophisticated elegance and serenity.
